Frequently Asked Questions

  • This is wonderful for any age, but ideal for girls age 6-11. The younger side may need some help reading as the letters are generally 2-3 pages.

  • Yes, every month you'll receive a parent preview with that month's theme. For any month where you'd prefer to skip, just let us know before the print date (1 week prior to mail date) and we'll pause that mailing at no charge.

  • Every letter gets read. Billie tries to write back to as many girls as possible, and will do a 'shout out' to girls in the following month's letter (first name, last initial only!) Stories from girls who write in (always anonymized!) are woven into future stories so every girl who writes feels heard.

  • You'll receive a printable gift announcement - something beautiful to present to the child (or slip into a birthday card) before the first mailing arrives. All letters ship to the address you provide.

  • Letters are shipped on roughly the 5th of each month. Please allow 14 days for domestic delivery (usually sooner!) and slightly longer for international.

  • Billie is a fictional girl- a character created to speak directly to your daughter in a voice that feels like a friend rather than a grown-up. She is curious, honest, a little bookish, and completely real in the ways that matter most.

The letters are written by a 59 year-old mother of three - two of whom are girls - who remembers the tween years with extraordinary clarity. She remembers what if felt like to be eight years old and suddenly aware that the world had opinions about who you were supposed to be. She remembers the friendships that shaped her, the moments she wished someone had named for her, and the particular ache of that age when confidence starts to quietly slip away before anyone notices it happening.

She created Dear Brave Girl because she believes - deeply and without reservation - that the words a girl hears between the ages of sixe and ten leave a mark that lasts a lifetime. She wanted those words to be the right ones.

Every letter is written from that place. Not from a curriculum or a content strategy, but from genuine love for this age and the genuine belief in what girls are capable of when someone takes the time to tell them.
